Builders of the Future
Aalto University, the Association of Professional Graphic Designers in Finland and the Finnish Association of Designers are cooperatively organizing a design contest. The aim of the contest is to create a memorial to the donors who provided funds for the University’s endowment capital. The contest is open to Aalto students, staff members and alumni.

Aalto University Degree Programmes in Environmental Art and Landscape Architecture launched a student challenge with the aim of designing a campus garden for the area between Otakaari and the Rakentajanaukio square in the Otaniemi campus.

Pavilion

Students of Aalto University designed a wooden pavilion which was placed in an empty lot between Museum of Finnish Architecture and Design Museum in Helsinki in spring 2012. The Pavilion is a temporary construction and serves as a World Design Capital Helsinki 2012 as a hub and a meeting place for the general public, the media and visiting international experts during the summer months. The Pavilion house also an café.

EASA (European Architecture Students Assembly) is an independent event of architecture students, with an annually changing venue country. EASA can be described as a two-week long architecture festival for about 500 architecture students taking part. Over 42 countries and over 240 architecture schools are represented from all over Europe.

Soft Tower

Soft Tower is an innovation project focused on high-rise buildings. High-rise is a device for spatial optimization, creating peaks of density. It is perhaps the most powerful device for sustainable building due to the optimization of the urban infrastructure. Most of tall buildings however have a bad image caused by serial reproduction and technocratic atmosphere.
