News / Design in Pictures: music action painting

01.03.2012

The Design Exploration and Experimentation: Family project is nearing its end. The students are placing finishing touches to their works, which will be presented at the Design Museum next Tuesday, March 6th. Before the big day we take a look behind the scenes, including a pilot project by Maarten den Breeijen.

In order to try out action painting with children, Maarten arranged a small workshop at Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture.

In the workshop, Maarten co-created paintings with children by using music and sounds. He placed paper on top of a subwoofer and played different frequencies and songs from a computer. The paint, of course, then starts to vibrate according to the intensity of the sound waves. The children were appropriately delighted, and eagerly took part in the co-painting experience.

Come and see Maarten’s Action painting wagon and other works at the Design Museum from 6.3.2012!
